Wakefield Civic Society President Kevin Trickett will give an illustrated presentation on the Society's blue plaques - existing and proposed.
The Society has erected 33 plaques in and around the city centre so far and we have ambitious plans to take this number up to 50 by the end of 2014 – the year which will mark the Society’s 50th anniversary.
We already have a long list of nominations for new blue plaques – both for people and buildings – and we are in the process of developing our shortlist of plaques that we hope to put up during the next two years. As well as covering our existing plaques, my talk will explain how we decide which plaques to put up and the process we go through once a nomination has been accepted. There will also be an opportunity for you to make nominations for plaques that you would like us to consider.
The talk will take place in the lecture theatre at the West Yorkshire Police Training and Development Centre at Bishopgarth, Westfield Road, Wakefield. The talk is open to all: there is no charge for admission (although donations are always welcome!) and no need to book. Doors open at 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm start. Please note that it may not be possible to admit latecomers. Our meetings usually end at approximately 9.00 pm.
