Ambitious plans have been announced for the redevelopment of Westgate Station and it is expected that work will start before the end of this year.
There is no doubt that a new station building with modern facilities will be a welcome addition to the ongoing regeneration of our city centre and will complement the work already underway as part of the Merchant Gate key development area, which includes the new civic offices at Wakefield One. But after many years of waiting, we need to be certain that the new station is fit for purpose and that the design will sit well within its context of historic listed buildings and modern office and residential properties while also serving the needs both of the local community and the travelling public as a major gateway to the city.
Come along to our meeting on Thursday evening, 18th October at 7.30 pm to hear more about the concept for the station and to see the detailed plans presented by a panel from Network Rail and East Coast Main Line Ltd.
There will be the usual opportunity to ask questions and then to discuss the scheme over coffee after the meeting.
As usual, the meeting will be held in the Tom Butler lecture theatre at the West Yorkshire Police Training and Development Centre off Westfield Road. There is free on-site car parking available in the car park, accessed off College Grove Road.
It is expected that the meeting will end no later than 9.00 pm. There is no charge for admission.
